Punkabbestia

2003

Research on group dynamics led me to make a video on the Punkabbestia, a little-understood social phenomenon. The punkabbestia, with their faithful dogs at their sides, live on charity in the gang and bring the old meaning of existence to the dehumanised metropolis. It is no coincidence that the video-installation uses the idea of a “heavy metal” tent as the primary unit. I wanted to portray the punkabbestia as decontextualised figures that turn back the clock of time inviting us to reflect on our existence and on the emptiness that surrounds us. They are almost immobile figures in the fast-moving city, whose presence creates a sense of uneasiness and permanent estrangement.
